Hi, this video is so informative (and he talks so fast!), will be great for revision! Have you heard of Ester Boserup? How do you think Malthus' views compare to hers? She has a somewhat less pessimistic view about population, how accurate do you think her view on population growth is?
Hi Priya, your right Boserup does take a much more positive outlook on population. It is so easy to concentrate on the doom and gloom, whilst forgetting about literature which is much more positive! I feel like she raise's some very valid points which counteract Malthus's theories. Furthermore, i feel since her work was published later than Malthus, her work is more appropriate to the present day, in which the green revolution and genetically modified crops have proven that humans themselves can control agriculture. Malthus's work however, is still relevant as it reminds us of the problems that can occur with our increasing population and limited resources.
